Auto repair shops without websites: what we found in 159 Google Maps listings
We searched Google Maps for auto repair shops in 10 US cities and checked 159 listings by hand. A second reviewer re-checked every listing that looked like it had no website. 26 of them (16.4%, about 1 in 6) had no website of their own. That is far higher than the other local niches we checked, where it was 4 of 319 (1.3%). Below are the method, the counts for every city, and the full CSV.
Key findings
- 26 of 159 auto repair listings (16.4%) had no website of their own: 24 had no website link and 2 linked only to a Facebook page.
- Deeper results had more. 11 of 80 (13.8%) in results 1 to 8, compared with 15 of 79 (19.0%) in results 21 to 28.
- Every city but one had some. Counts ranged from 0 of 16 in Phoenix to 5 of 15 in Nashville. With 15 or 16 listings per city, the city-to-city differences are small samples, not rankings.
- Other niches ran far lower. In our earlier check of roofers, HVAC contractors, hair salons, landscapers and house cleaning services in 4 of these cities, 4 of 319 (1.3%) listings had no website.
What this means if you sell websites
If you are looking for local businesses with no website, auto repair was the only one of the 6 niches we checked where they turned up regularly. At the rate we saw, finding 10 shops with no website meant checking about 61 listings. In the other 5 niches we found only 4 in 319. Each listing still has to be opened and checked, because search results don’t show which shops lack a site.

Method
- Searches: one Google Maps search for auto repair shops in each of 10 cities (Phoenix, AZ, Dallas, TX, Atlanta, GA, Columbus, OH, Charlotte, NC, Denver, CO, Tampa, FL, Nashville, TN, Kansas City, MO and Sacramento, CA). From each search we recorded results 1 to 8 and results 21 to 28, for 159 listings after one exclusion.
- Which listings counted: results in the order Google Maps showed them, skipping sponsored listings and businesses marked closed. We didn’t hand-pick any listing.
- How we checked: by hand, in Google Maps, while signed out, on the evening of October 20, 2026. We recorded the website link each listing shows, if it has one. We didn’t record Google place IDs.
- Two reviewers: a second reviewer re-checked every listing first marked as having no website. We then ran a web search for each listing still marked as having no website. We used a conservative rule: if any check found a plausible site of the business’s own (matching name plus city, address or phone), we counted the listing as having a site, even if that site doesn’t load.
- Excluded: 1 listing (Nashville, results 21 to 28) couldn’t be found again on re-check, so we removed it. That leaves 159 listings.
- “No website” means either of two things. None: no website link, or only a booking-only link or a Google redirect or short link, and no own site found on re-check. Social-only: the listing’s website link goes to a social media profile.
- What we didn’t check: whether listed websites load, work on phones, or look current. This report makes no claims about site quality.
- Two passes: the 4 cities from our earlier check (Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta, Columbus) and the 6 newer cities were checked in separate passes the same evening, with the same rules.
- Likely duplicate: Ace Auto Care in Dallas appeared twice (results 7 and 21) and is probably the same shop. Both listings link to a website, and we kept both. Counting it once gives 26 of 158 (16.5%).
Limits
This is a small, single-evening snapshot: one niche, 10 cities, results 1 to 8 and 21 to 28 only. Google Maps rankings change with location, device and time. A listing with no website link doesn’t prove the business has no site anywhere. With 15 or 16 listings per city, single-city figures are noisy. These numbers describe these searches and shouldn’t be read as a national rate.
